HIPAA Statement Concerning the Medical Information Privacy, Security and Electronic Data Interchange Standards of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

In December of 2000 final regulations were published to implement the privacy requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (aka HIPAA). The federal government is now seeking to regulate the handling of “Individually Identifiable Health Information” or “IIHA,” in the administration of privately sponsored employee welfare plans. These regulations are slated to become effective in early 2003, and will affect most companies involved in the financing and delivery of health care including service providers, health plans and insurers. The same standards are slated for October 2002, with data security and electronic signature regulations.

We at International Benefits Administrators have always taken seriously the concerns and precautions that surround the issue of medical privacy. We are dedicated to ensure that our company is compliant with HIPAA’s specific requirements well in advance of the regulatory deadlines.
